Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr
Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr never met; but they both fought the same cause at the same time in two different countries.
Mandela did travel over to the U.S. after being released from jail. Mandela talked at the Yankee Stadium about the black South Africans and the black Americans being connected by an unbreakable umbilical cord.
King made plans to visit South America, but he was unable to go because the government refused to give him a visa.
Nelson Mandela was very inspired by King. He quoted from King’s famous “I Have A Dream speech – “Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty we are free at last” in his 1994 address to the U.S. congress.
Mandela and King may not have ever met, but they both fought for something very similar and they never once gave up.
